A place of rest and a home for souls

Together with special people, we managed to build a warm little house for Aniko and Albert, a poor family from the Roma community of Tărian, Bihor County.

Thank you for all the support you have given us and for every donation! The story of this family has beautiful moments thanks to you.

For those who do not know them, the two have had a hard life; they have faced problems since childhood.

Aniko was abandoned by her parents when she was just a baby (she had a very low birth weight and was born with clubfoot, talipes equinovarus) and grew up in a children's home until the age of 4, when she was taken in by her grandparents, who cared for her until she got married at 24. Albert was born into a Roma family with no means and many hardships.

Together they have two little children, Maria, 9, and Marius, 8, two diligent and well-behaved schoolchildren who never miss school. Aniko supports them, whether the weather is good or bad, even when they lack things or have nothing to eat on some days; she sends them to school because she knows that only by learning can they rise above their social condition. Ever since the After School program implemented by Dorcas Romania through CCB began in the community, the two have taken part in the programs every day.

Neither Albert nor Aniko has an education; they can neither write nor read, which makes it almost impossible for them to find a job where they would be hired. To put bread on the table, Albert collects scrap metal and then sells it, and Aniko works by the day for people in the village, gardening and cleaning, whenever she is called. Because she is a trustworthy and honest person, the neighbors in the village call her to work. She is also part of the social reintegration project for disadvantaged women, implemented by Dorcas România in collaboration with CCB in their village, through the Sukhar Center in Tărian. Here Aniko learns both sewing and how to take better care of her family and raise her children well.

They bought the house they live in after they got married, for a modest sum, but it could not meet the needs of a family. The home, made up of two rooms, was in a state of severe disrepair and urgently needed restoration. The makeshift bricks in the walls had begun to fall, some windows were broken and rain came in through the roof. In winter, even when a fire was lit, it was very cold; there was nothing but dirt on the floor and the furniture was in a pitiful state. The home had no bathroom and no drinking water.

Now the four of them can enjoy the new little house and a warm place. With this support, Aniko and Albert can keep fighting for their children, with the hope that change is possible.
